All lessons are based in my home Guitar Teaching Studio in Cirencester,

and teaching aids including computer based learning and recording
software. Where appropriate I use modern music technology including
music software programmes to aid playing along with songs, learning
music theory, practical improvisation.

Simon's Guitar Teaching Studio |
Tuition Methods:
Lessons are worked around your personal aims and ambitions. During
your first lesson I will establish your playing level and discuss
your goals. It is important to me that you get what you want out
of a lesson whether it is studying for graded exams, wanting to
learn to improvise, working on covers or just having fun. Lessons
are given on a one-to-one basis and tailored to your requirements
and level of playing ability. If you'd like to learn a song by your
favourite band then I will work to incorporate these into structured
lessons so you can learn how to play what you want. |

What you will need:
Ideally you will need to invest in either an electric or acoustic
guitar. However for beginners I can supply guitars, amps and leads
if required.
If you are studying for a exam you will need to purchase the relevant
grade books. As an RGT tutor I am happy to pass on the 10% discount
I get on purchases of RGT books and software to my students.

RGT Graded Examinations:
|
|
For those students wishing to take guitar examinations,
I use the examinations with the internationally recognised RGT examinations.
The RGT is the world’s foremost organisation for guitar education
and organises courses in acoustic, electric, classical and bass
guitar – from total beginner to Diploma level – all
qualifications are accredited by the London College of Music &
Media (one of the world’s most respected music examination
boards, established since 1887). As a student you can save yourself
years of struggling, by being taught properly how to play from the
start. Whether or not you want to take the exams, studying with
RGT will help you develop your playing in a comprehensive and structured
way.
Preparation for graded examinations is given by working thoroughly
through everything you will need to know. This involves thorough
training in aural, theory and musicianship skills. The LCM guitar
syllabus provides a structured and comprehensive method of studying
the guitar that is relevant to the practical music needs of the
modern day guitarist. The examinations are fully validated by the
Thames Valley University, are fully approved by the Qualifications
and Curriculum Authority (QCA), and have been placed on the National
Qualifications Framework. At higher grades students are awarded
UCAS points for attaining advanced level LCM/RGT qualifications
(grades 6,7,8). See this link for detail of UCAS Points http://www.registryofguitartutors.com/ucas_points.htm |

| Not everyone learning the guitar wishes to take
music examinations - so the option is left up to you. Whether taking
examinations or not I always ensure that learning to play the guitar
is an enjoyable activity.
As a Guitar Teacher I attend the RGT teacher's conferences in London
to keep up to date with the latest information on examinations and
developments with regard to the different syllabuses. |
